Run to the Hills

Run to the Hills turns the arcade into an obstacle course: ground hazards demand jumps, hanging traps demand a crouch, and taller towers require a carefully timed double jump. Your goal is to keep moving, collect sigils and build a clean streak.

How to play Run to the Hills

Watch the shape of the next obstacle before committing to a move. A hanging banner is a reason to duck; a tall tower marked 2× JUMP needs a second jump near the first jump’s apex. Release the duck control before jumping. On Nightmare, holes remove the ground beneath you, so cross them in the air rather than trying to absorb a hit.

Keyboard and touch controls

ControlWhat it does
Space / ↑ / WJump; press again in the air to double jump.
Hold ↓ / SDuck under hanging obstacles.
Touch buttonsUse Jump ×2 and Hold to duck on the game screen.

In arcade games, use P to pause, H for the control guide, R to restart and Esc to return to the arcade. The bracket keys switch games. These shortcuts are disabled while you are typing in a form.

Choose your difficulty before starting

Every game offers Easy, Normal, Hard and Nightmare. A run keeps the difficulty chosen at the start, and personal bests are stored separately for each tier in your browser. To change an active run’s difficulty, return to setup and begin again.

DifficultyWhat changes
EasyFive hearts, tombstones only and a gentler pace.
NormalThree hearts and four obstacle types, including hanging hazards and double-jump towers.
HardTwo hearts, six obstacle types and obstacles arriving faster over time.
NightmareOne heart, nine obstacle types, ground gaps and an escalating pace.

A useful starting strategy

Practice the second jump on Normal before moving to Hard. Clearing a tower takes timing, not just two immediate key presses.
